In my research, I analyze (1) contemporary and historical processes of globalization and financialization, (2) global inequality, social change and development, and (3) social and political movements (e.g. nationalist movements, labor unrest, social revolts, revolutions and warfare) in world history. I am particularly interested in explicating the interrelationship between social change and development at the global and local levels; in particular, the ways in which changes in the global political economy affect social and political movements, and class and ethnic-based hierarchies.
Broadly speaking, there are four major themes that I am currently working on.
- Global Waves of Nationalism and Nationalist Mobilization
- Globalization and Global Inequality
- Global Social Protest and Labor Unrest
- Historical Capitalism and Geopolitics
